Below is a post from Kasey Henderson, our Production Advisor. Kasey was an incredible help during out time in Tanzania and we couldn't have had such a smooth shoot without her.
"Our time in Tanzania was filled with love and people opening their homes to us and telling us about their lives. I was able to experience Maasai culture, gain a deeper understanding of the education system and it’s struggles, and appreciate the interpersonal connections that is the cornerstone of East African culture. But more than this, I was able to meet and get to know three women on a much deeper level than I had ever imagined. Being with Astridah showed me how important it is for children to have a support system when they are attending school. Not only is she this support system for her entire family, but she is also supporting her community and truly values education more than anyone I have ever met. Margaret, an incredible bridge between Maasai and western worlds, is an amazing example of how to stay true to your roots while also pursuing your dreams and getting an education. The third woman, Sister Crispina is one of the strongest women I have encountered and her faith helped her to open and maintain an orphanage that has changed the lives of over 45 children. Each of these women have such different lives but it is incredibly obvious that their’s are stories that need to be told. I learned so much just by listening to them and am so excited for others to learn about them as well."
